3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.
3:6 acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.
3:8 this will bring healing to your body, and refreshment to your inner self.
5:3 we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
5:4 and endurance, character, and character, hope.
5:5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts
It is not always easy to have positive thoughts. There are circumstances that can create negativity. It is easy to think that no matter what has happened, nothing positive can come out of it. So, how can we change the way we think? Not easily, of course. To change the way we think takes time and effort, a change in heart, and faith in God.
Time and Effort
Why do I say we need time and effort? Because time always heals wounds and effort is the work we put into changing the way we think. With the passage of time, our mind tends to forget some details. If the situation was dangerous or even life threatening, our mind starts hiding away the hurtful details to allow the healing process to begin. It does this to protect us and give us a reference point from where we can begin to see “the light at the end of the tunnel.”
When faced with a negative situation, we can put effort into working out the circumstances for the better. We may seek counseling if it affected our emotional state, we can look for a better opportunity, if we lost our job, or we can change our interaction with others, if it was a situation where our actions where the cause.
Time and effort helps to heal our mind, reinvent ourselves, or rethink the way we do, experience or confront situations and circumstances.
A Change in Heart
Our hearts are easily broken, but we can learn to heal them. How can we heal a broken heart? The only way I know is to cry and let it out. Sometimes we cry when we hurt. If we cry, tears flow. When our heart is filled with despair, hurt, and deception, it overflows and tears leak to relief its containment. Tears release our emotional state and help with our self-healing.
Other times, we let it out, either we scream aloud, or we scream in silent. When we are hurt, letting it out aloud or silently, releases our anger, sadness, or pain. It feels good to do so, because we are not allowing the emotion to control us, but we are allowing it to flow out of us.
A change in heart comes after one of this two actions. After a good cry, we tend to be calmer, see the situation better, and can come to terms with what happened. When we let it out, we release our feelings and can begin healing from within. Both provide a starting point for the healing process while promoting a change of heart. If our heart was filled with thoughts of revenge, resentment, or hatefulness, we can take this time to change the thoughts into positive thoughts of healing, possibilities, and recuperation.
The most important step we can take to think positive when a situation seems hopeless is to have faith in God that he will turn around the situation. We may fall into despair and believe there is no way that we can get through. Doom and helplessness may control our thoughts. However, God is always with us. He holds our hands when we need assistance, and he carries us when we feel we cannot go on. Even if we do not understand they why’s and how’s, we can be assured that he is in control and he already has declared victory over your circumstances.
Sometimes there are circumstances that we must endure to gain strength, hope, and trust.
