Uphold my Heart, Oh! Lord

isaiah 41 10

Today’s Word

Uphold

To support against an opponent

Today’s Verse

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you! Don’t be frightened, for I am your God!

I strengthen you – yes, I help you – yes, I uphold you with my saving right-hand

He Fights for Us

God is going to help us against our opponents. There is no need to be afraid. If we lack strength to fight our battles, we must reach out to God. He will provide us with all the strength we need. He goes ahead of our troubles and resolves them for us. He knows how much we can or cannot handle. He takes care of the excess.

The Catch

However, we must be willing to let Him be a part of our lives. We must trust Him to be in control. If we feel we can do it alone, He will not intervene. He will let us go and fight our own battles. Problem is we can be stubborn. We may think we can handle something without His help. How much easier to resolve our situation can be when He leads the way!

Surrender

What we must do is fully surrender to God, for he will go ahead of us and fight for us. He is the Captain of our conquest. For, if we surrender our will to God, we will never need to surrender unto our enemies, problems, turmoil, heartaches, nor burdens. He will triumph and intercede in our behalf.

So, we need not be afraid, we must give it all to God. Let Him bring us to victory.

Sustain Me by Your Word

Psalm 119 28

Today’s Word

Sustain

To provide what is needed for (something or someone) to exist, continue, etc.

Today’s Verse

 Psalm 119: 28

I collapse from grief. Sustain me by your word!

Call out to Heaven

Are you feeling helpless, alone, abandoned, or sad? Are you grieving, crying, or hurting? Do you have no one to turn to? Are you weak in spirit, or do you feel broken? You are not alone. That’s right. Call out to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Let them be your comfort, the ears that listen, the arms that comfort, the guidance you need, the love you lack, the counselor, and the strength you lack. Let God provide you with whatever your need is in order to continue living with meaning.

Seek God

Don’t collapse. Let God sustain you. Let his Word speak to you in the ways that you need. Open a Bible and read, lift your eyes to God, raise your arms to Heaven, pray to Jesus, uphold your heart to the Holy Spirit. Seek comfort in his love, understanding, and acceptance. Speak to Him. Let your request be known. Give him your cares and worries. Let him carry you through.

Abide with Him

Once you call out to Heaven and seek Him, enjoy abiding with Him. He will be in your midst. He will deliver you. He will hold you, comfort you, and provide you an understanding of your situation. He will pave a way for you to see the end of your heartache. He will be your hope. Best of all, He will do it lovingly.

Pray to Him

“Father in Heaven, I ask that you be with me today, abide with me, provide me comfort. Thank you for always listening and being here for me.”

Honor, Obey, and Love

Ephesians 6

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right.

2 “Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely,

3 “that it may go well with you and that you will live a long time on the earth.”

Most of us regain our respect for our parents after we become parents ourselves. It is unfortunate. If as children or teens, we made a point of listening to them, we may very well avoid much heartache. Although, parents come across as strict, not understanding of our situation, the truth is they have our best interest at heart.

Honor your father and Mother

In order to honor our parents, we must conduct ourselves with respect. We must treat others in a way that shows caring, understanding, and love. We must revere them. We must not act in a way that would be an embarrassment to ourselves and to them.

Obey your parents

We may not want to listen to our parents; however, their advice is wise and knowledgeable. They were our age in the past. They have experienced many of the situations we will, as well. Their wisdom surpasses our age-appropriate foolishness, and can keep us from harm.

Love your Parents

We all love our parents; however, we must show them love. We must let them know how we feel about them. We must be loving when we reference them. We must uphold a loving attitude towards them.  We should do so in speech and action.

If we honor, obey, and love our parents, the Bible teaches us, “we will live a long time on the earth.” We will have years added to our longevity. We will follow their example, as to obedience and respect for God. We will absorb our teachings and learn lessons.

Falsely Accused

deuteronomy 20 4

  • Has anyone accused you of committing an act for which you had no guilt?

  • Has anyone falsely witnessed against you?

  • Have you been a victim of a lie?

 If you have,

  •  Did you defend yourself?
  • Did you get angry?

  • Did you retaliate?

  • Did you ask God to forgive them?

  • Did you pray for God to intervene and fix the situation?

  • Did you let God have control?

Hopefully, you asked God to forgive them, intervene and fix the situation, and allowed him to have control.

I have been in that situation, and at different times in my life, I have done all of the above. However, when I allowed God to have control, the situation was fixed by him. Why? Because I prayed to him to handle it, I waited for him to take care of it, and I saw the results. They may have not been immediate, but they were at the right time, his time.

When we ask God to forgive them

Not only, do we need to forgive the person, but we also need to ask God to forgive them. Why? Most people that falsely accuse others do so with intentions to hurt, damage, and humiliate. It is not easy to forgive them, but it is what we are commanded to do. If we ask God to forgive them, he will deal with them in his way. God has a way of teaching lessons that persons can learn from.

By asking God to forgive them, we are saying “God, take a look at this person. Check them out. They need your help. They need your guidance. Please have mercy on them and teach them about your love and understanding.” God knows everything and sees everything, but there is nothing wrong with asking him to notice someone. There is nothing wrong with interceding on their behalf.

  Psalm 86

86:5      Certainly O Lord, you are kind  and forgiving,

and show great faithfulness to all who cry out to you.

When we pray for God to intervene and fix the situation

It is very easy to become angry when a person has falsely accused us. It is just as easy to retaliate and give the person a piece of our mind. But, what can we accomplish, besides getting angry? Not much.

However, when we pray for God to intervene and fix the situation, then we have no need to get angry. We put our concern in his hand. We allow him to take over, and he looks for ways to ensure that the situation is corrected.

We pray to God to let him know what happened. He knows our heart. He knows that we have been falsely accused. Who better to defend us than he who knows the truth beyond a reasonable doubt?

 Jeremiah

29:12     When you call out to me and come to me in prayer, I will hear your  prayer.

29:13     When you seek me in prayer and worship, you will find me available to you. If you                  seek me with all your heart and soul,

29:14     I will make myself available to you, says the Lord.

When we let God Have Control

After we ask God to forgive the other person, and after we ask him to intervene and fix the situation, we need to let him have full control. We need not intervene. We need not worry.

When he is control, he will guide any step we take. He will direct any words we say. He will continue to work on what is needed until he declares victory over our accuser. Once he is in control, all we need to do is wait. In his time, he will triumph over our situation.

Deuteronomy

20:4      for the Lord your God goes with you to fight on your behalf against  your enemies to give you victory.

Do no let your anger be your guide. Do not let pride take over. Do not let revenge be what feeds you.

Seek God on all you do. Seek God on all you want to do. Pray, ask, and wait.

Have faith. Have hope. God will answer. God will guide you. God will take care of you.

Today, tomorrow, and always.

Spiritual Understanding: Compassion Towards Others

0c359f1211f7777bc9beb0592e4b9494

Today’s Word

Understanding

A disposition to appreciate or share the feelings and thoughts of others; sympathy:

Characterized by or having good sense or compassion

Today’s Verse

Job 32

8 But it is a spirit in people, the breath of the Almighty, that makes them understand.

I remember at times, thinking, “I don’t feel sorry for them. They got what they deserved.” However, who am I to judge a person? I may not have all the facts. Even if I did, I am not to judge others. I am to have compassion, instead. Our flesh is of man’s thoughts and teachings. However, our spirit is of God’s thoughts and teachings. To understand the difference we must have our heart listen to God’s guidance.

Carnal Understanding

From the day we are born, until the day we die, we live in a world filled with selfish thoughts. Our world thrives on self-pleasing and self-preservation. If anyone hurts us, we, naturally, want to hurt them back, or at least we want them to have a piece of our mind. We go through life with the understanding that we are not to be treated harshly nor should we be disrespected.

If anyone does us wrong, we want to get back at them, we want to get things straight, we want to resolve it. However, we are limited, in our resolve, by our carnal understanding of what is fair.

Spiritual Understanding

Whereas in carnal understanding we depend on our own thoughts, in spiritual understanding we rely on God’s thoughts. He speaks to our hearts through the Holy Spirit within us and helps us discern. It is the spiritual understanding in each of us that allows us to show compassion instead of despise, love instead of hatred, kindness instead of meanness.

We no longer rely on our own actions of righteousness, but on God’s expertise in the matter. He intervenes with our human nature, and allows his spirit to prevail.

For it is his spirit in us, his breath of understanding, that should think and act for us.

Let our fleshly understanding die each day, so that our spiritual understanding may live forth.

Let us be a godly example filled with love, compassion, and kindness towards others, so that Christ in us will show outwardly and win others to join in the family of believers.

Let not our carnal understanding be a stumbling block to those that may be wavering in faith.

Family: A Spiritual Unity

family1

Today’s Word

Family

Those who descend from one common progenitor; a tribe or race; kindred; lineage.

A brotherhood of persons or nations united by political or religious ties.

Today’s Verse

1 Peter 2

17 Honor all people, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the king.

Earthly Family

When we are born, we become part of our earthly family. They provide us with our physical needs. They teach us about love, unity, and care. We form a bond that lasts a lifetime. We become part of its history.

Spiritual Family

When we are born again, we become part of our spiritual family. A unity formed by our belief in Jesus Christ, his resurrection, and our salvation. It teaches us about loving one another, honoring those around us, and respecting each other. We are part of the body of Christ; we become sisters and brothers in faith. We form a bond that last through eternity. We become part of the Book of Life.

Note:

I thank my parents for giving me life, so that I could live and choose to love God, and so I could find His promises of life everlasting, faith by His Grace, and love unconditional.

Do you have a spiritual family?

family-of-believers

John 1

12  But to all who have received him – those who believe in his name – he has given the right to become God’s children

13  – children not born by human parents or by human desire or a husband’s decision, but by God.

Love In Our Hearts

Ever said aloud, “I hate ……” then felt guilty for even saying it. I have. Just saying the word fills me with guilt, shame, and remorse. How can I, blatantly, say that word, yet profess to love God? Exactly!!! Once we have the love of God in our hearts, it is hard to be mean, say hateful words, or be disgruntled. On the other hand, maybe, we can. However, with God’s love, guidance of the Holy Spirit, and a humble heart, the correction of our actions it is immediate.

God’s Love

God’s love resides in each of us who believe in him, who trust him, who seek him. Within us are his teachings that help us lead a better life and strive to be an example to others.

1 John 4

8 The person who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 Corinthians 16

14 Everything you do should be done in love.

Guidance of the Holy Spirit

As we go through life, the Holy Spirit guides us. It teaches us to love, to do right by others, and to follow God’s example.

2 Corinthians 6

6 by purity, by knowledge, by patience, by benevolence, by the Holy Spirit, by genuine

love

Galtatians 5

25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also behave in accordance with the Spirit.

26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, being jealous of one another.

Humble Heart

As God’s love resides within us and his Holy Spirit guides us, our hearts become humble, tender, and loving. We allow it to love all that surround us. A humble heart cannot hate. It cannot, intentionally, hurt others. If we do, we are, immediately, reminded of what we have done. We do not feel pride by demeaning others, or stepping over them. On the contrary, we place ourselves at their mercy.

Psalm 25

9 May he show the humble what is right! May he teach the humble his way!

Ezekiel 11

19 I will give them one heart and I will put a new spirit within them; I will remove the hearts of stone from their bodies and I will give them tender hearts.
