Truth and Mercy in Our Spiritual Heart

Today’s Word

 Mercy

Kind or forgiving treatment of someone who could be treated harshly

Kindness or help that is given to people who are in a very bad or desperate situation

Today’s Verse

Proverbs 3

Do not let truth and mercy leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

The best asset that can be used to win others to salvation is our daily Christian example. The manner in which we conduct ourselves can leave an imprint, whether positive or negative, on those that surround us. On a day-to-day basis, we must be truthful in our words and actions and we must show mercy unto others. Proverbs 3 says to bind truth and mercy around our neck and write them on our hearts.

Be Truthful

We must use our words carefully each day, so as not to offend others. I have always understood that my rights end where others begin. What do I mean by that? I mean that I must choose to respect others, treat them with kindness, and show them a true heart. I must choose to not deceive, hurt, nor use harsh words against them.

Show Mercy

Many persons come along our path throughout our lifetime. Some are more or less deserving of our kindness than others, or so I thought. However, today’s verse says to not let truth and mercy leave us. Hmm. In other words, no matter whether I think they are more or less deserving, I must not judge and show them mercy equally.

Imagine, I must be truthful. I must show mercy to all.

What about my human side that does not want to do that?

Then, it must be entrusted to God. He must be in control of our human heart so that we may speak and act with our spiritual one.

Encouragement

1 Thessalonians 5

11 Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, just as you are in fact doing.

Sometimes we just need a little encouragement from one another. Just thought i would post a reminder to myself. I sometimes forget that we can help uplift each other.

  • In case you are in a slump, down, or just want to hear something positive, here are some words to help you make it through another day.
  • We all need a little push to help us brave the day. There are days that are better than others. On those other days where we struggle a bit, it is good to hear positive and uplifting words.
  • We are human. We make mistakes. We stumble. We sin. We get down.
  • Keep your eyes on God and Jesus and watch your day turn into a most beautiful experience.
  • Live life today with God holding your hand.
  • Breath in your surroundings and remember that every sense in us lives with him.
  • Don’t forget that Jesus is here, always, waiting on us.
  • When you see a rainbow, remember God’s covenant.
  • When you feel the breeze, that is God whispering loving words in your ear.

It helped me. I hope it helped you, too.

My Eyes Are on You, God

psalm 139 23
Do your eyes wonder? Do your thoughts make you ashamed? Do you think, maybe, you are not worthy? Then you are human, imperfect, and filled with doubt. That’s Ok. Because as long as we take a breath, as long as we live in this world, our lives will be filled with all the above.

However, there is an answer to our daily struggles, God. If we keep our eyes on him, he will help us through each day. He will remind us not to wonder, not to be ashamed, and not to feel unworthy. You see, the adversary wants us to feel that way so we can take our eyes of God. Don’t let him win.

 Keep your eyes on God

Every day, when I wake up, I wonder what kind of day I am going to have. I wonder if I am going to make it through the day. If I am going to be worthy of God’s grace or if I am going to fail miserably. The truth is that by keeping my eyes on God, I will have the best day possible.

Keep your thoughts on God

When I feel my thoughts attacking me, I think of God and how he works in my life. I read a passage in the bible, or I pray for help in keeping my thoughts on him. I will not allow the adversary to win.

Feel God’s presence in your life

When I take a breath, I feel God’s presence. He gave me the air to breath and the lungs to breathe with. When I open my eyes, I see his masterpiece surrounding my life. The wonders of God are all around us. Each marvel brings a thought of his amazing powers.

If you feel as if you are wondering about life, then do so with God by your side. Let him help you find your way, let him fill your thoughts, and let him remind you that you were worth dying for. He gave us his son Jesus. Why would he not give you a good day?

 Exodus 33

14 And the Lord said, “My presence will go with you”

 Psalm 139

23 Examine me, and probe my thoughts Test me, and know my concerns!

 Mark 12

11 This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

Honor, Obey, and Love

Ephesians 6

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right.

2 “Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely,

3 “that it may go well with you and that you will live a long time on the earth.”

Most of us regain our respect for our parents after we become parents ourselves. It is unfortunate. If as children or teens, we made a point of listening to them, we may very well avoid much heartache. Although, parents come across as strict, not understanding of our situation, the truth is they have our best interest at heart.

Honor your father and Mother

In order to honor our parents, we must conduct ourselves with respect. We must treat others in a way that shows caring, understanding, and love. We must revere them. We must not act in a way that would be an embarrassment to ourselves and to them.

Obey your parents

We may not want to listen to our parents; however, their advice is wise and knowledgeable. They were our age in the past. They have experienced many of the situations we will, as well. Their wisdom surpasses our age-appropriate foolishness, and can keep us from harm.

Love your Parents

We all love our parents; however, we must show them love. We must let them know how we feel about them. We must be loving when we reference them. We must uphold a loving attitude towards them.  We should do so in speech and action.

If we honor, obey, and love our parents, the Bible teaches us, “we will live a long time on the earth.” We will have years added to our longevity. We will follow their example, as to obedience and respect for God. We will absorb our teachings and learn lessons.

February 20 – Scriptures of the Day

romans 8 3

Scriptures for the Day

Romans 8 1:11

1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

2 For the law of the life-giving Spirit inChrist Jesus has set you  free from the law of sin and death.

3 For God achieved what the law could not do because  it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

4 so that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

5 For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by  the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit.

6 For the outlook  of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace,

7 because the outlook of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to the law of God, nor is it able to do so.

8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 You, however, are not in  the flesh butin the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person does not belong to him.

10 But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is your life because of righteousness.

11 Moreover if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the one who raisedChrist   from the dead will also make your mortal bodies alive through his Spirit who lives in you.

Prayer for the Day

I thank you, Lord, for dying for my sins so that my flesh may die each day and allow  your Spirit to uphold in me, so that I may claim victory over sin.

Heartache, Why?

heartache and pain

Ecclesiastes 1:18

For with great wisdom comes great frustration;

whoever increases his knowledge merely increases his heartache.

When I write a blog for my website, I think of ways to inspire others. I do not know what that is, but I figured that if I have struggled, experienced, or learned from my own difficulties, others might have done the same. Over the weekend, I experienced a heart-breaking situation. I am dealing with the different emotions that are going through my head, and realize that things happen for a reason. God allows us to go through situations so that we can learn from the experience, grow as individuals, and have more faith in him.

Learn from the experience

There are times that we do not want to experience heartache, but we do. We question, why did this happen? Even though, we do not understand the reason, we do understand that there must have been one. As time passes by, we see that had it happened the way we wanted it and had we not suffered a heartache, it could have had negative and complicated consequences that were not comprehensible at the time. We take the experience we place it somewhere in our subconscious, and if faced with it again, we know what needs to be done. Although, at the time, we suffered, we learned from the experience.

Grow as individuals

Hard knocks, or life experiences, once we have learned from them, help us grow as individuals. As we go through life, we gain insight, knowledge, and wisdom. All three are good for personal growth. Insight gives us a better look at situations, knowledge gives us a better understanding of things that happen, and wisdom gives us prudence when faced with different situations.

More faith in God

We face an infinite number of situations in life, for which we are not prepared. Life does not have a How-To book that we can open up and follow each time we need guidance. However, our knowledge of faith helps us make the best decisions when God is consulted. Does that make it easier? Does it make it harder? Does it have any impact at all? The answer is within us. Do you believe in God? Do you not believe in God? Do you rather not even think in those terms? Then the answer will be dependent on you, your faith, and your belief. Faith in God, like anything else, is a personal choice. I choose to believe God exists, and I choose to believe that having faith in him, allowing him to guide my life, and giving him control of my worries and problems, provide the best way to understand the reason why things happen.

When I am faced with a heartache, I reason that there must be a lesson to be learned. I look for the lesson and I apply it to my life so that I can grow in insight, knowledge, and wisdom. I put my faith in God, I allow him to guide me, and in the end, he provides the reason or reasons why I had to go through the experience. It does not make it any easier. I still hurt, cry, and question, but I remember that with faith, I can overcome and arise to be a better person, a better individual, and a better witness for him.

Inner Voice

inner voice

When we make a decision on what to do, we all have an inner voice that wrestles with our thoughts, and guides us. That inner voice is the Holy Spirit. It speaks to us and helps us to understand the difference between right and wrong. As we get older, our knowledge is greater and our conscious works harder at making the right decisions. When we make the right decision, we feel peace, when we make the wrong decision we feel guilt. Do you listen to your inner voice? Do you allow it to guide you in your decisions? Do you feel peace, or guilt?

Peace

We are faced with decisions to make, from the moment we get up until the moment we go to sleep. We need to decide on simple things as much as we need to decide on complex things. The simple decisions may not carry major consequences, but the complex ones may. How do we know what is the right decision that will bring peace?

First, we need to consult God. Ask him for guidance and listen to what he has to say. He answers us in his time, so we need to be patient and wait.

Ecclesiastes

7:8 The end of a matter is better than its beginning; likewise, patience is better than pride.

Lamentations

3:26 It is good to wait patiently for deliverance from the Lord.

Second, we need to rationalize the consequences of the decisions we make. Once we do this step, then we need to understand if the consequences are positive or negative.

If the consequences are negative, can we avoid them? If it cannot be avoided, can we live with the decision in peace? If we cannot live with the decision in peace, then we need to look for other avenues that we have not followed. Take a second look at the decision and look for other ways to change it into a positive outcome.

If the consequences are positive, how do we know is the right decision?

We know is the right decision, because when we consult God, we will have peace in our hearts, we will have no doubts, and we will have a positive outcome.

Psalms

72:1 For Solomon.

O God, grant the king the ability to make just decisions!

Grant the king’s son the ability to make fair decisions!

Guilt

When we make a decision that makes us feel guilty, then we have not made the right decision.

Guilt stays in us and does not allow us to feel good about what was decided. Guilt eats away in our minds. When we feel guilty of anything we have decided, then we are listening to the inner voice that is guiding us along. It is letting us know that something is not right.

The Holy Spirit convicts us and does not allow us to feel peace. However, if we confess our guilt to God, talk to him through prayer, and listen to his guidance or teaching, then we can release the feeling of guilt and replace it with peace.

Ezra

9:6 I prayed, “O my God, I am ashamed and embarrassed to lift my face to you, my God! For our iniquities have climbed higher than our heads, and our guilt extends to the heavens.

Every decision we make has two possibilities. It can be negative, or positive, peaceful or guilty. As individuals, we are free to make any decision we want. However, as a child of God, every decision we make, needs to be guided by the Holy Spirit, the inner voice that tells us what is right or what is wrong. If we, patiently, listen to our inner voice, will be making the right decision.

Trusting God: He Leads the Way

psalms 119.105
A few weeks ago, I was faced with circumstances that tested my faith. I wondered if there was going to be a solution to the problem I was facing. It seemed that everything surrounding me was spiraling down without end.

It all started in December, changes started happening that did not seem to have any correlation to the end result. However, all changes did have a correlation. They all intertwined and made all the pieces fall into place.

What happened?

I needed to make decisions in my life that would affect the lives of others. What I did not know was that God had other plans made.

The Wonders of God

Even though, I thought I had it all figured out, nothing came to be the way I planned it. I think the wonders of God are never ceasing. He manages to show his face and wisdom and takes control of all we trust him with.

When I was making decisions, I was talking to him. When all was falling apart, I was trusting him. When all was resolved, I gave him the praise.

God leads us in unknown paths. However, he does not let us fall into darkness if we have full trust in him. When all seemed to dim around me, he placed a torch in front of my path that made it clear where I needed to step next. How wonderful? I did not have to stray or fall. His light was so bright that I did not lose my way.

Psalm 119

105 נ Your word is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path.

Calmness in the Storm

There was a storm amidst my life. Clouds of trouble stacked one of top of the other. The problems rained and flooded my mind, yet I was calm. Those around me said that I was not showing concern for the situation we were faced with. However, that was not true.

I was trusting God. I decided not to worry, for all would be resolved if I continued to allow God to be in control. It was a great test of faith. It was a test like no other. I felt peace within my heart. My mind tried to worry as my human nature would surface, but my heart continued to be at peace. I passed the test. He resolved. He controlled. He lead my path.

Philippians 4

6 Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.

7 And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

The Answer Was Clear

When God decided it was time, he intervened, gave me the correct answer, and all the pieces fell in place. It was amazing. There were no doubts, no more problems, all was resolved, in a matter of minutes everything that seemed impossible became possible.

God is so amazing. Each time he shows himself in my life, he makes it clear to me that it was his doing. Why? Because there is no other explanation for the end result. He tested me and I passed the test.

I Corinthians

13 And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.

God Guides: We Pray and Listen

proverbs

The New Year has arrived full of hopes and dreams. A fresh new outlook to the world we live in. Yet, is another day following the day before, absolutely nothing special about that fact. However, because it is the mark of a new year, many fill themselves with new hopes, resolutions, and possibilities. I will be doing the same, but like many, I will do all those things with God’s guidance.

God provides guidance. We listen. Sometimes, we do not like his guidance. We tend to ignore it. Why would we do that? Maybe, because we do not want to do what he wants us to. How can we ignore him? We can do so easily, but the consequences may be negative in the end.

When I hear God guiding me, I listen. I have to. He knows what is best for me. Even though, my human nature wants to question it, I need to listen. He has laid a path for me. He knows the course I need to take. He knows where I am headed. He knows where I will end up if I listen, and he knows where I will end up If I don’t.

Life is difficult as it is. Why complicate it more than it needs to be? There is no reason to do so. How can we listen, understand, and do the right thing? The answer is to pray to God not only to guide us, but also to help us listen to his guidance.

Prayer is the only communication we have with him. The Bible tells us to pray. It goes as far as telling us to pray in secret.

Matthew

6:6 But whenever you pray, go into your room, 8  close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.

Why in secret? It is not because he wants us to hide. It is because in secret we find ourselves in a place where we are free of distractions, we can pour our hearts out to him, and we are praying to communicate with him.

In secret, we pray quietly, we have peace in our surroundings, and we can listen. I forget sometimes. A simple command and I forget to follow it. I struggle every day to stay close to him. Life has so many demands which can easily distract me and take me away from him.

What if we cannot find a quiet place to pray. Then pray anywhere or anytime you find it necessary. It is best to speak with him, let him know what is in our hearts, than not do so at all.

Same way we remember to go to sleep each day, we should remember God in our lives. He is the one constant we have. He is willing, ready, and able to converse with us. He stops everything to listen to us. When others do not have time for us, he always does.

In the New Year, continue to have dreams and hopes. Be filled with faith. Speak with God, pray to him, and listen. I am going to continue doing what he expects from me. With him by my side, who can be against me? No one can be. What can I accomplish? Everything and so can you. Today is the first day of the rest of our lives; let us make it the best one yet. In the beginning, he remembered you and me. Let us emember him today.

Proverbs

8:22 The Lord created me as the beginning of his works,

before his deeds of long ago.

8:23 From eternity I was appointed,

from the beginning, from before the world existed.
