Family: A Spiritual Unity

family1

Today’s Word

Family

Those who descend from one common progenitor; a tribe or race; kindred; lineage.

A brotherhood of persons or nations united by political or religious ties.

Today’s Verse

1 Peter 2

17 Honor all people, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the king.

Earthly Family

When we are born, we become part of our earthly family. They provide us with our physical needs. They teach us about love, unity, and care. We form a bond that lasts a lifetime. We become part of its history.

Spiritual Family

When we are born again, we become part of our spiritual family. A unity formed by our belief in Jesus Christ, his resurrection, and our salvation. It teaches us about loving one another, honoring those around us, and respecting each other. We are part of the body of Christ; we become sisters and brothers in faith. We form a bond that last through eternity. We become part of the Book of Life.

Note:

I thank my parents for giving me life, so that I could live and choose to love God, and so I could find His promises of life everlasting, faith by His Grace, and love unconditional.

Do you have a spiritual family?

John 1

12  But to all who have received him – those who believe in his name – he has given the right to become God’s children

13  – children not born by human parents or by human desire or a husband’s decision, but by God.

Calm The Storm in My Heart

36cac2681d3c4dd0f1bd750b71a58f6d

Today’s Word

 Storm

An occurrence of bad weather in which there is a lot of rain, snow, etc., and often winds

A strong or violent outburst, as of emotion or excitement

Today’s Verse

Psalm 107

29 He calmed the storm, and the waves grew silent.

Just as Jesus calmed the storm, He can calm our storming hearts. If we are in the midst of a storm, we must place our cares on Him. Let him calm our anxieties, problems, and crisis. As much as we want to resolve our issues, Jesus wants to resolve them with us.

We must cast our cares on Him. Ask him to lift our burdens and allow him to work in our lives without doubt or fear. We must place our faith in Him. Let him know we need his help. Acknowledge His power in our lives.

Let Your Request be Known

If your heart is suffering, let God know. Ask him to help you, to calm your worries, and to intercede. By letting Him know what is in our hearts, we acknowledge that we need Him and welcome His help.

Have Faith in Him

Once you let Him know your suffering and asked him for help, have faith that he will resolve it. By placing our faith in Him, we free ourselves of worries.

Acknowledge His Power

Lastly, acknowledge His power over your difficulties, cares, and worries. By acknowledging it, we accept His intercession on our behalf. We accept the resolve of our circumstances. We let His power calm our hearts.

Godliness: Leads to Salvation

godliness

Godliness

the quality or state of being spiritually pure or virtuous

1 Timothy 4

7 But reject those myths fit only for the godless and gullible, and train yourself for godliness.

8 For “physical exercise has some value, but godliness is valuable in every way. It holds promise for the present life and for the life to come.”

To be God liked is greater than any like we may ever receive. We all strive to be liked by others, however, to be liked by God is what matters most.

How can we be liked by God?

Confess His Name

Accept Him in Our Hearts

Receive Eternal Salvation

Do all three and see Him work in your life. Let him frame you into a godly person. Let your actions show your godliness so you can lead others to be liked by God. Let your life be the example that leads others to eternal salvation.

Perseverance: A Continuance in a State of Grace

35999

Today’s Word

Perseverance

Noun: Steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

Theology: Continuance in a state of grace to the end, leading to eternal salvation.

Today’s Verse

2 Peter 1

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith excellence, to excellence, knowledge;

 to knowledge, self-control; to self-control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness;

Grow in Knowledge

As we grow in knowledge of the Word of God, we are challenged to add more to our plate. We are given more responsibility. As we face each day, we are to practice what we have learned. We are to exemplify with our actions our faith, our knowledge, and our self-control.

Add Perseverance

Now, we must add perseverance. We must continue to be in a state of grace. We must be persistent in our purpose to overcome difficulties, obstacles, and discouragement. We must endure our trials. We must not give up.

Shield Ourselves

Like the saying, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going,” we must shield ourselves with the armor of God and face all that comes our way. When trials and tribulations arise, we must cling on to the Word of God. Allow trust and faith to carry us through. Allow God to be in control.

Remember God

Many times, I remember God when things aren’t right, but tend to not seek Him as much when all is well. I am working on it. I am a work in progress. It is so easy to get busy with our daily lives that we may forget to seek Him. God should be first.

What am I doing about it?

Making Time for God

It may seem absurd to make time for God, but if that is what it takes to remember Him, then so be it.

Philippians 1

3 I thank my God every time I remember you.

Scheduling Devotional time

Devotions are so important. They help us read the word, study it, and understand it.

Acts 6

4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

Praying For Consistency

I ask God for help in becoming consistent in seeking him every day, good or bad.

Psalms 66

19 However, God heard; he listened to my prayer.
